This past October there was an...incident. There were Pokemon rampaging across the regions that had been mutated. Some of them attacked trainers when they tried to capture them, or sometimes without being provoked at all.
Some time after these attacks, those afflicted found themselves transforming into Pokemon, too. It wasn't pleasant.
